How might we help manufacturing industry professionals improve the resiliency of their supply chains?

Disruptions, like COVID-19, are unpredictable and have widespread impacts on supply chains. They could often wipe out gains from years of careful cost optimization and result in loss of customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Solution

So far I have designed or I'm desinging 4 important features of the application.

Improved the visibility across the end-to-end supply chain.

By facilitating bulk management on privacy settings, you could quickly decide who can see your activities and whose activities you want to see. You are no longer bothered by contacts you are unfamiliar with or don't want to have deep interactions with.

Improved the ability to detect and assess the potential risks on the supply chains.

You can easily find the entrance on top of your contact list. The organized structure uses a two-column design to separate contacts into lists by filters. Table design is easy to show many users with essential parameters at a glance.

Increased professionals' awareness of the potential risks on their supply chains.

Remark helps you recognize people and thus avoid social embarrassment. It was a nightmare if you forgot to add the remark for a lot of contacts and tried to do it on mobile. Now, you are able to add or edit the remark with a simple click.

Improved the collaboration with suppliers or customers to confront risk events.

Tagging could group your friends the way you want to fasten future bulk actions. For example, if you don't want your contacts to find out that you block them via privacy settings, you can use tags to share your posts with specific groups.

takeaway

There are 4 main takeaways from what I have done so far.

Designed for an enterprise product with limited domain knowledge at the beginning.

This is my first time working for an enterprise product. Before I entered this job, I only had limited knowledge of the supply chain industry.

To confidently deliver professional design solutions, I revisited the reports from previous user research to understand users' pain points and goals. Also, I worked with the user researcher to conduct usability sessions to ensure that the experience is friendly to industry professionals.

Designed for complex scenarios.

The scenarios for this product were much more complex than many other applications I have ever seen and used, so I struggled with how to start the design initially.

By frequently communicating with product managers and conducting brainstorming sessions, I broke down each complex scenario into several simple scenarios so that I was able to get started quickly and convey the understandable design to others.

Improved the ability of storytelling for different types of audience.

I frequently presented my design directly to different stakeholders, including designers, product managers, and engineers, which improved my ability of verbal design communication. I was also responsible for making prototypes for participants of usability studies and making storyboards.

Collaborated with cross-functional team members in a remote setting.

This is my first time working fully remote. To balance the time for communication and the time for design independently, I got used to delivering design solutions in a friendly way for others to understand with minimal verbal communication. Moreover, I got used to proposing agendas before meetings to improve efficiency and making use of asynchronous collaboration methods to reduce meeting load.
